Body BEAST Review by FitDadBlog.com
Introduction
The purpose of this guide is to walk you through my journey with Body BEAST. If you are considering buying this program, read on.
Disclaimer
I am not a fitness trainer, a P90X master, or a BeachBody coach. I’m just a busy Dad looking for solutions that keep me motivated to stay fit and healthy.
Where I Bought the Program
I bought the Body BEAST program right from BeachBody’s website. Although there were used options on eBay, I decided to support the company that created Body BEAST and wanted all the included material.
My Goal
I intend to see if the Body Beast program holds up to it’s promises and also if I can modify it to bring to the gym with me. I will be using the JeFit app to rebuild the program on my iPhone.
Equipment
Since I am going to bring this program to the gym, it doesn’t make sense for me to buy advanced workout equipment for home. I plan to hold Body BEAST to it’s promise that it can initially be done with dumbbells and an exercise ball.
Opening the Box
Included with the program: Packing Slip, the Book of BEAST, DVD set, Body BEAST Schedule Poster, Free Shirt Offer, Supplements Brochure, Update Letter, and a Shakeology Brochure.
Book of BEAST
This guide includes the philosophy and instructions for the lifting component of Body Beast. It also spends 2/3 of the pages going over the nutrition portion of the program. I did not expect this and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve made a few of the recipes so far and have loved every one. How many macro-nutrients and calories are needed were a complete mystery to me. The price is worth it just for this information alone. I also downloaded the MyFitnessPal app as a way to track macro-nutrients.
BLOCK 1 BUILD
Week 1 (11/27/12 – 12/3/12):
DAY 1 BUILD: Chest/Tris
DAY 2 BUILD: Legs
DAY 3 BUILD: Back/Bis
DAY 4 BUILD: Shoulders
DAY 5 BEAST: Total Body and Abs
DAY 6 REST
DAY 7 BUILD: Chest/Tris
|
Day 1 |
Day 5 Today was a combination of Total Body and Abs which are two separate chapters on the same DVD. The most difficult part was finishing Total Body and then having the willpower to go back the main menu choose to continue with Abs. |
| Day 2 Today was Legs and Sergi does not dissapoint. He takes my least favorite exercise, the Bulgarian Split Squat, and sandwiches it in a super set of pure pain. I like how it never gets cheesy like the typical DVD workout. | Day 6 Rest… thank God! |
| Day 3 Back/Bis today was good. It reminded me of why I love lifting. By the time I got to Hammer Curls my arms were so toasted that I had to drop to 10 lbs. You know it’s a good workout when you’re dying to lift 10 lbs. |
Day 7 My home dumbbells only go up to 25 lbs and I maxed them out today. It was still a great workout. I still had to finish the close grip push-ups on my knees. It’s been a good week and I feel more motivated and excited about fitness than in a long time. |
| Day 4 If yesterday was intense then today was extreme. Shoulders are a tough area that take a lot of isolation and focus. Sergi continually reminds you to keep perfect form and to push yourself. I love how he balances between the two. |
Week 2 (12/4/12 – 12/10)

Week 3 (12/11/12 – 12/19)
Build Phase Thoughts
This has been a tough three weeks and I’ve been sore everyday. In some areas, more sore than I can remember ever being. I’ve noticed the goal is high reps which must be to build a foundation of strength for the next phase. I’m glad I’m onto the Bulk phase now. I can’t wait to see what it’s like.
Build Phase Results
Arms +1, Chest +1.5, Shoulders +1, Waist +1, Thighs +.5, Weight +1

Final Thoughts
A six day a week schedule is very difficult to maintain for a busy dad. That’s why this 90 day program took me 104 days. I never missed a workout but had many more “Rest” days than the schedule called for.
It does do what is promised. I’m sure if I was able to keep up with the actual schedule I would have added 10 lbs of muscle as opposed to 7. I enthusiastically recommend this program. The techniques and nutrition tips I learned will be used the rest of my life.

Thanks Marc!
I’m on week 2 now and really enjoying the ride. Build: Shoulders is a pretty intense workout and like you said, a lot of the exercises do not take much weight. The most weight that I have used so far are the 30 pound dumbbells (with exception to shoulder shrugs). Overall fun program.
Great to hear! Stick with it, its totally worth it.
